Re-Write Your Relationship To Stress
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Instead of managing our relationship to our thoughts, we attempt to manage what’s happening around us. When uncomfortable situations surface in life, our automatic tendency is to back away towards comfort. Yoga, when practiced properly, actually uses discomfort to reveal where we are blocked and teaches us to relax even while feeling uncomfortable. Gradually, we loosen the grip of resistance and widen our capacity to remain integrated in other situations. In this workshop, we will use yoga-based techniques to skillfully approach intensity and practice re-writing our relationships to the circumstances we otherwise waste our energy attempting to control or avoid. This session is open to yoga enthusiasts of all experience levels. The Posture of Consciousness is a unique blend of Hatha and Raja Yoga. The session is a combination of correct understanding and direct experience.

Himalayan School of Yoga traditional Hatha Yoga Class
Limited Capacity filling up

With a holistic approach combining asanas, pranayama, chanting, meditation and effective guidance about diet, Himalayan School of Traditional Yoga’s programs are designed to bring knowledge and direct experience of peace and health to its sincere practitioners. HSTY remains loyal to the original teachings of Yoga, as it existed eons ago. At its core, HSTY is all about simplicity and about being natural. A yogi is natural, i.e. a state where the body, mind and soul are in unison. This leads to health and equanimity, a state where we are happy and without anxieties, anger or stress. We do not look at Yoga as exercise, rather as a set of practices that help take one back to his/her original state.

Accordingly, the sessions would broadly include:

  • Light Yogic exercises that are effective warm up exercises to prepare the body for more demanding Yogic postures. Light yogic exercises  also cleanse the meridians in the subtle body
  • Selected Yoga postures (asanas) and Pranayama, with insights about nadis (meridians) and chakras and effective cleansing of the same
  • Sun Salutations (surya namaskar)
  • Yoga Nidra with mantra chanting (aimed at activating centres in the cortex of the brain  for effective relaxation and soaking in the effects of entire Yoga practice)

Traditional yoga is easy for people to adopt into their daily lives and benefit from the practice. Systematic practice of traditional yoga helps people activate the witnessing state of mind, live in gratitude and surrender and obtain relief from physical, mental or psychosomatic illnesses.

Dristi- You have 'The Sight'
Limited Capacity seats available

Dristi
“The eyes are the windows to the soul...” William Shakespeare So much of our yoga practice addresses our bodies through physical asana and our minds through intellectual knowledge of anatomy, but the soul is often forgotten or it remains mysterious as to how to access it. The gazing point of the eyes is called “dristi” and it is directly responsible for the flow of our energy. Where the eyes go, the energy flows, we can feel this in all we do. In this workshop we will address how to use the dristi to help bring us into balance and how the direction of the eyes either consciously or unconsciously is always informing our yoga practice and our lives. Through the structure of a vinyasa flow sequence, we will learn how to access the third eye, the eye of intuitive wisdom and to learn how to direct our gaze and our attention inward. We will learn about the different forms and layers of dristi as well as practicing “trataka” or candle gazing as a method of purifying the eyes and cultivating divine sight. Mixed level.

Trauma, Tension & Triggers: Using yoga to calm anxiety and create inner peace
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Yoga is perhaps never as powerful as when used to cope with the effects of trauma. While the human body is masterfully equipped to endure such experiences, when they’re over, the survivor is left with the residue of the incident playing out in his or her mind and body. Physiologically, this can put survivors of trauma on edge, or make us feel anxious, tense and reactive, even in a safe environment. During traumatic events, and often long afterwards, hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline, are released into the body, stimulating the nervous system into fight, flight or freeze. Trauma survivors have trouble discharging this pent up energy, regulating our nervous systems and restoring ourselves to a state of rest and ease. In this workshop you will learn to use yoga as a tool to come back to your body and be present in the moment. Through asana and breath, you will learn to release stuck stress, calm your nervous system and create a sense of inner peace and relaxation. Postures will be done slowly and gently, to nourish your over-taxed physiology, build tolerance for day-to-day stress, and increase your capacity for contentment and joy.

The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art. -Leonardo da Vinci When you treat foot problems with yoga, you end up treating knee pain, back pain, hip pain, and all kinds of structural problems. We place our feet into tight (albeit cute) shoes, walk around on concrete all day, and generally ignore them unless they begin to hurt. 25% of the bones in our body are in our feet. 25% of the muscles in our body are in, or connect to, our feet. When the muscles in our feet become weak, they affect the structure of the bones, causing the arches to collapse. Fallen arches can result in tendonitis, plantar fasciatis and contribute to the development of bunions, shin splints, and pain in the knees and hips. They can even affect the lower back, neck, and shoulders. In this workshop we will aim to open the plantar fascia and strengthen the muscles in the feet and lower legs, resulting in both a greater range of motion and sense of balance. Our feet are a gateway into the entire body – the organs, spine, breath, and even chakras! Maintaining the health of our feet with regular care, can literally put an extra spring in your step - physically, energetically, and emotionally!

Brilliance, Resilience & Balance: cultivating lightness and wholehearted living on the yogic path
Limited Capacity seats available

Humans are a resilient species, thriving despite the unavoidable challenges of life. While these experiences are great motivators on the spiritual path, they can fragment us, pulling us into disjointed, disparate, frazzled pieces. Yoga’s promise is to return us to wholeness. In the face of hardship, how can we stoke the flames of our inner light? What tools from the yogi’s toolbox can we carry into our daily lives that foster resilience? How can we say yes to the whole spectrum of life’s experiences, both the enjoyable and the challenging? An advanced seeker is someone who can hold the tension of these opposites without being split into pieces. In this workshop you will learn to use yoga to return to wholeness, even when things are uncomfortable. Together, we will use our practice to find balance in the ever-shifting middle so we may live with whole-hearted courage and openness, no matter the circumstance.

Satsang with Mohanji - A Rare Opportunity to Find Yourself
Limited Capacity seats available

A “Satsang with Mohanji” session is essentially about YOU with the Master. It is all about finding yourself. As is typical of the tradition of liberation, Mohanji will use a medley of practices such as Q&A, discourse, dhyana (meditation), pranayama, mantras/shlokas, manana (contemplation techniques), etc., to allow the participant an opportunity to start entering their inner space and seek within. The actual flow will finally depend on orientation and energy of the participants. At this session, following satsang, Mohanji will give Shaktipat (energy transfer) to all participants who choose to receive it. The actual content of the satsang will be similar to the Friday and Saturday sessions (and thus the 2 hour stated session length below). The additional length for this session is to allow time for participants to receive Shaktipat. If necessary the satsang portion may be shortened to accommodate more people receiving Shaktipat.

Find Your Center and Learn to Fly: Arm Balances and Inversions
Limited Capacity seats available

This workshop on arm balancing and inversions will be challenging, playful, and accessible. It is designed for intermediate and advanced practitioners. We will break down the mechanics of balancing on our hands so that participants will leave with the foundational knowledge to approach all arm balances and their transitions and introduce and break down the major inverted postures. Participants will work on mastering the correct alignment in these postures to defy gravity and learn to fly. When we understand the basics and foundation, these postures that were seemingly difficult are unlocked, and suddenly become a mere balancing act. Like learning the secrets to a magic trick, arm balancing and inverting may appear to be difficult, but with correct alignment and body mechanics, we are all magicians. Life is all about balance; and as in life, so on the mat. This workshop will explore the mechanics of arm balancing and inverted postures so that participants will leave with the confidence and ability to master these seemingly complicated postures. Balance is about mastering and fine tuning the subtle. Like a castle made of cards, balance is achieved through setting the right foundation and stacking the scaffolding in just the right place. Maggie believes anyone can defy gravity and learn to fly on their hands and can’t wait to give you the tools to do so too. This workshop will be challenging for those who are already advanced with an arm balancing practice who want to work on transitions, and is designed for those who are broadening their practice into the more advanced and intermediate realms that include arm balances and inversions.
