Join internationally acclaimed Vedic master teacher and author, Acharya Shunya as she teaches the most sublime lessons of mind management and inner mental rejuvenation as per the science of Ayurveda, that can be combined with the knowledge of Yoga Sutra’s (beginner or advanced) for even greater self awareness and self control.

There are three constituent energy states (gunas) used in Ayurvedic practice. Shunya explores how these gunas influence one's mood, outlook, and activity level. Participants also learn about five states of mind and how they contribute to mental balance/imbalance as well as how food affects the gunas, in addition to the importance of practice of non-attachment and dharma. This approach to psychology is unique as well as valuable because it allows for a paradigm shift away from the disease model and toward a model for achieving and sustaining mental health.

Ayurveda on the Mat

Lets explore how to apply the principles of Ayurveda as yoga therapy (chikitsa). Yoga and Ayurveda have long been linked together and share a common purpose of brining harmony to the body, mind and Spirit. We will briefly review the main principles of Ayurveda including; the 5 element theory, the three doshas, Prakriti/Vikriti, the gunas, and the energetic body. Once we have laid the ground-work we will dive into Ayurveda as yoga therapy discussing asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation for balancing each dosha. We will focus on designing asana practices to balance seasons, time of day and time of life. As time allows we will use Downward Facing Dog as a tool to diagnosis dosha imbalance in an individual and discuss simple ways to bring these powerful practices onto your mat.
