Immersion includes a 2 Hour Vinyasa Yoga practice followed by 4 hours of workshop time for yoga teachers & students; this immersion is open to ALL. We will discuss the 4 main methods of adjusting, energetic etiquette, practice assist's in many different poses including but not limited to foundational standing asanas, sun salutations, floor work, inversions, Thai & partner variations and also take time for Q&A.

The goal of this workshop is to inspire and cultivate a better understanding of how to intuitively and safely assist the student in discovering more freedom, bliss and deeper expression of an asana. By understanding the biomechanics of the poses and trusting your intuitive instincts a student and teacher can deepen their practice through creative, fun exploration of the asanas.

The practice of Integrative Breathwork utilizes a fully connected breath (inhale/exhale with no pause), sound with music and toning, as well as intention. On a physical level, this connected breath practice will expand your respiratory system, increase oxygenation and decrease toxins in the body, giving you more energy and vitality. On a mental/emotional level, this practice supports the release of suppressed and repressed emotions as well as limiting patterns and beliefs. Long hours spent at a computer create a forward-pitched head posture resulting in neck & shoulder tension. Carrying around children, driving, and stress from every day activities can also slowly whittle away at our uprightness creating a head-forward, slump-shouldered and collapsed chest posture often resulting in neck, arm and upper back pain (what Tias Little calls "schlump-asana"). The focus in this workshop will be on releasing tension in the neck, upper shoulders, and jaw and creating greater freedom of movement in those areas. Reducing cranial pressure may also result in relief from common complaints such as migraines, insomnia, eye strain, and bruxism. The shoulders are so closely tied to the neck that when there is shoulder strain it often comes with neck pain. In this workshop, we'll explore gentle flowing movements (the SATYA work developed by Tias Little) as a way of releasing holding patterns in the neck and shoulders and hydrating these areas with an increased flow of blood & prana, both vital in maintaining the health and longevity of the shoulders, cervical spine, and their surrounding structures. Parameters for participation include: the ability to get up and down off the floor without assistance, freedom from medical devices, and no acute spinal disc or nerve compression. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

Forrest Yoga is a contemporary practice designed by Ana Forrest to help in mending the hoop of the people. The workshop will begin with a four directions ceremony and intent setting. Through guided meditation and focused pranayama practice, participants will choose an emotion, physical injury, or mental trauma that they are interested in healing. Throughout the 90-minute physical practice, Hibs and her assistants will lead students through therapeutic contemporary yoga pose variations, processes, and exercises, incorporating skillful hands-on assists, aromatherapy, and clear individualized instruction. Students will learn to face and feel the pain, using the effective tools of Forrest Yoga to breathe, feel, heal and move from pain and trauma into freedom and spaciousness.

“The eyes are the windows to the soul...” William Shakespeare So much of our yoga practice addresses our bodies through physical asana and our minds through intellectual knowledge of anatomy, but the soul is often forgotten or it remains mysterious as to how to access it. The gazing point of the eyes is called “dristi” and it is directly responsible for the flow of our energy. Where the eyes go, the energy flows, we can feel this in all we do. In this workshop we will address how to use the dristi to help bring us into balance and how the direction of the eyes either consciously or unconsciously is always informing our yoga practice and our lives. Through the structure of a vinyasa flow sequence, we will learn how to access the third eye, the eye of intuitive wisdom and to learn how to direct our gaze and our attention inward. Chakra Perceptions- Radical Awareness of the Subtle Body

You may have heard something about it, you may know nothing about it, nonetheless the health of your chakra system does effect you. Chakra means Wheel. The ancient Yogis and modern Clairvoyants who can see this energy all describe it as spinning vortices of energy that are located at certain points around the body. Most of the chakras in our energetic body correspond to main nerve centers, however, there are many more besides the simple 7 you may have heard about before. All life bodies have energetic centers- cats, dogs, horses and the Planet Earth. The power of the Chakra system then lies in much more than our simple connection to breath and our feelings. It lies to the very center of Life and connection to the Creative Source. For this connection is what causes us to be the creative energetic beings that we are. We have a Light Body made of these centers that connects to our our nerve and organ centers in the physical body, but we also have points that correspond to the Greater Energy of all life that allows us to envision and manifest on this planet. Without the chakra connection, we manifest mere base survival, and our higher forms of thought and creativity languish. Truly, as we are Spirit in a Human existence, then this connection to the Creative Force is what also causes us to be an integral part of this Source. We have Human Life Suits, if you will, that allow us to interface on the particular dimension and frequency that is Earth. It is a specific function that this body performs on this plane and it is unique in many ways. We get to sense in a tactile way the feelings and emotions of the world around us. Hence, the more clear we are in our energetic system, the more acute our own perceptions become and the more psychic we appear to be. It is not that we are ever not psychic, it is that we are frequently attuned to a lower vibration of perception that masks our awarenesses under the weight of fears and concerns, which in turn dulls our perceptions to the point of near invisibility.

Yoga is perhaps never as powerful as when used to cope with the effects of trauma. While the human body is masterfully equipped to endure such experiences, when they’re over, the survivor is left with the residue of the incident playing out in his or her mind and body. Physiologically, this can put survivors of trauma on edge, or make us feel anxious, tense and reactive, even in a safe environment. During traumatic events, and often long afterwards, hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline, are released into the body, stimulating the nervous system into fight, flight or freeze. Trauma survivors have trouble discharging this pent up energy, regulating our nervous systems and restoring ourselves to a state of rest and ease. In this workshop you will learn to use yoga as a tool to come back to your body and be present in the moment. Through asana and breath, you will learn to release stuck stress, calm your nervous system and create a sense of inner peace and relaxation. Postures will be done slowly and gently, to nourish your over-taxed physiology, build tolerance for day-to-day stress, and increase your capacity for contentment and joy.

The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art. -Leonardo da Vinci When you treat foot problems with yoga, you end up treating knee pain, back pain, hip pain, and all kinds of structural problems. We place our feet into tight (albeit cute) shoes, walk around on concrete all day, and generally ignore them unless they begin to hurt. 25% of the bones in our body are in our feet. 25% of the muscles in our body are in, or connect to, our feet. When the muscles in our feet become weak, they affect the structure of the bones, causing the arches to collapse. Fallen arches can result in tendonitis, plantar fasciatis and contribute to the development of bunions, shin splints, and pain in the knees and hips. They can even affect the lower back, neck, and shoulders. In this workshop we will aim to open the plantar fascia and strengthen the muscles in the feet and lower legs, resulting in both a greater range of motion and sense of balance. Our feet are a gateway into the entire body – the organs, spine, breath, and even chakras! Maintaining the health of our feet with regular care, can literally put an extra spring in your step - physically, energetically, and emotionally!

The Role of Restoration Yoga as a Healing Practice

Restorative Yoga may seem to be intimidating at first. How to place the supports, the blocks, the straps.....? Relax- this is the key word in restoration, Relaxation. In this session, learn what makes this practice more than just relaxing, but a true state of Surrender. Most people spend a great deal of the waking, conscious day (and truthfully, their slumbering unconscious night!) in dealing with stress. For many folks, the very act of lying back and being still is even in itself a massive shift in allowing. Minds are busy filling in the gaps of what I woulda, coulda, shoulda have done. Or endlessly loop around the what I must do next. This process creates a mental crazy train that is deftly crippling otherwise normal, healthy people. Teaching them what slowing down even means, is a challenge! Add to this, the amount of toll that is placed upon the human body through overindulgences- whether this be too much sitting at a computer, or too much spinning in the gym. Our bodies find healing in the place between such states. The beauty of Restoration yoga, is that even people with no prior yoga experience, or who are in recovery from addictions and trauma, can find deep psychological support and healing in profound ways. In fact, the vulnerability that can be exposed and then lovingly supported is beautiful. Come experience for yourself why this gentle practice is so dearly needed in a time of accelerated change.

The Yoga of Chocolate: A Journey of the Senses

With the practice of pratyahara you can cultivate a more intimate relationship to your experience of sensation. A less common translation of the word pratyahara is ‘to recover the senses'. In this workshop, chocolate and asana will be the vehicles which we will use to cultivate that sensitivity, as our eyes, nose, mouth, tongue, heart, and whole body take in the delicate subtleties in the different varieties of chocolate. Combined with the chocolate tastings, we will explore SATYA, somatic movement techniques developed by Tias Little, to further heighten that awareness. In this workshop, chocolate will be used as a means of directing the participants' attention inward, and not at all as a gimick. The aim is to use chocolate as a way of encouraging people to slow down and really taste, savor, and enjoy their present moment experiences, whatever they may be ( (this one they will hopefully find especially delicious!) Philosophically, backbends are associated with a movement into the unknown, into our future. This workshop will give participants the tools they need to go deeper in their bodies, and in their lives, into unknown terrains and realms. Move deeper into intermediate and advanced backbends by learning appropriate body mechanics to safely explore the edges of our practice. We all have our limits; but it is important to test and ask why we set parameters on our own exploration, growth, and expansion. Backbends are some of the most beautiful yoga postures; but also some of the more complicated and difficult ones. This workshop will warm students up for these deep postures, and provide them with proper alignment tools to move safely into back bending asanas. This will be a mixed level workshop where students will be given the chance to move into more advanced postures as they are ready.

This is an on the land experience. Participants will travel with instructor, and be guided by Aumbase Sedona Coconino Nat'l FS permitted guide Carrie Khonya to Chapel Trail. Meet in lobby for shuttle.

The Psoas muscles are often referred to as "the muscle of the soul." When the psoas and tight hip flexor muscles becomes contracted due to injuries, poor posture, prolonged sitting, or stress, it can alter the biomechanics of the pelvis and the lumbar, thoracic and even cervical vertebrae. Until these muscles are released the muscles may stay contracted and go into further shortening and spasm very easily. A functioning psoas muscle creates neutral pelvic alignment and provides greater mobility and strength. Meditation as a practice is a key component for any Yogi, either as a teacher or student. As far back as the oldest Upanishads we learn, Meditation indeed is greater than the mind. The earth as it were, meditates. The atmosphere as it were, meditates. Heaven as it were, meditates. The waters as it were, meditate. The mountains as it were, meditate. Both men and gods as it were, meditate. He who worships God as meditation, as far as meditation extends, so far does he gain the power to act as he wills (Chandogya Upanishad VII.7). So ingrained in the need of the human psyche is it to Know Itself, that we have studied it for all of our recorded human history. And yet its function and practical applications have remained as shrouded in mystery for most modern humans as it has for our past. Understanding the Inner Self, or the I AM, is far simpler and more approachable than most people may realize. And although it would seems to be as important to serve our selves as our students in yoga classes, many modern yoga teachers are uncomfortable with its practice and indeed are not adherents even for themselves, and therefore do not give adequate instruction in its capability. In this workshop, we will dive into the practicality of what Meditation IS and WHY it works. - Understand the brain and how the Conscious and SubConscious mind work together. - Discover how systematic thought can change the body's reactions and responses to illness and pain. - Be guided through a personal journey that will give you a glimpse of the threshold of where a deep meditation practice may lead you.
