The Psoas muscles are often referred to as "the muscle of the soul." When the psoas and tight hip flexor muscles becomes contracted due to injuries, poor posture, prolonged sitting, or stress, it can alter the biomechanics of the pelvis and the lumbar, thoracic and even cervical vertebrae. Until these muscles are released the muscles may stay contracted and go into further shortening and spasm very easily. A functioning psoas muscle creates neutral pelvic alignment and provides greater mobility and strength. You will experience a feeling of relaxation in your hips and back as you practice and end with a relaxing yoga nidra.
